I uploaded file attachments to the respective company upload directories, then created a CSV import file and specified the file attachment names in the CSV.

The file attachments don’t show as available on the front-end, and when I open one of the imported posts in WordPress Admin, the “Current File” section displays the following notice.

“The associated file no longer exists in the directory. Please re-upload the file to restore it.”

This typically occurs when the attachment file name contains illegal characters (example: spaces, etc.), or is otherwise malformed.

When manually uploading files to client file directories, ensure that file names are properly formed and do not contain spaces or illegal characters.

Below are some basic guidelines for naming your file attachments to ensure that they function as expected.

        • Ensure that there are no spaces in the file name.
        • Ensure that the file name contains only alphanumeric characters and valid special characters (e.g. hyphens, underscores, and periods).
        • Ensure that there are no special characters other than hyphens, underscores, and/or periods in the file name.
        • Ensure that the file name ends in a valid file extension (example: .pdf, .jpg, etc.).
